ICT Coordinator Files

Files that were shown and demonstrated at the ICT Coordinators' Day on the 18th June are now available in their new home on the Learn-ICT Media Gallery. This area will be a replacement for the Picture Gallery as it provides greater functionality and flexibility.

It will allow teachers in schools to be able to create their own galleries and upload files and documents to demonstrate and celebrate pupils' work.

For full access, you will need the User name and Password provided at the course.

ICT Coordinators' Day: Summer Term

The ICT Coordinators' Day will once again be held at the Canolfan Gorseinon Centre on Thursday 18th June. The agenda can be found on the ICT Short Courses page of the Learn-ICT website.

Please be aware that colleagues from Secondary Schools should attend the morning session at the ICT Curriculum Team's Training Room at YG Bryn Tawe.

Website Update Event

Summer Term Short Courses Published

The Summer Term's Short Course programme for ICT has now been published. Please be aware that there is a new system for booking places on courses run by SWAMWAC (South West and Mid Wales Consortium). Details can be found on the ICT Short Courses area of the Learn-ICT website.

Learn-ICT Media Gallery

Learn-ICT has created a new Media Gallery to replace the existing Picture Gallery! Still in the beta phase of development, you can try it out now! As well as hosting all the images from the original Picture Gallery, the new Media Gallery will also be able to host video and audio files, as well as documents in a variety of formats.

The most useful feature of the Media Gallery will be the ability for staff from Swansea schools to upload their own media files to an Open Album! So if teachers would like to share their images and videos, contact John Mills for account details!

Bernie Henderson runs the London Marathon in record time!

On Sunday, 26th April 2009, Bernie Henderson ran in the Flora London Marathon in 3 hours and 13 minutes, beating his previous time by nearly 45 minutes!

This timing was a personal best for Bernie and earns him default entry to run the London Marathon over the next two years.

Bernie was running on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy and we would like to offer him our congratulations for such a fantastic achievement!

Learn-ICT Wiki is now live!

There is now a Learn-ICT Wiki where you can create discussions related to ICT Curriculum matters! There are two threads underway at the moment: the use of Open Source software in schools and another on useful Web 2.0 resources (e.g. Google Docs). You are welcome to join the Wiki and share your thoughts!

Safer Internet Day: 10th Feb 2009

To mark European Safer Internet Day, your school can download a pack of resources including new KS2 and 3 assemblies. CEOP will be creating and signposting you to all the resources you need for Safer Internet Day 2009. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce internet safety to students or to consolidate the teaching you have already implemented.

Primary Links Whitelist

A Whitelist of safe websites has been added to the Learn-ICT site. These websites can be visited without having to logon to the computer as an internet user. However, if pupils try to visit sites not in the list, a logon box will appear for the teacher to enter a username and password to allow internet use.

The ICT Curriculum Team are proud to launch the Scheme of Work for ICT at the IT Coordinators' Day on the 20th November 2008. There are many more resources waiting to go into the Scheme of Work and they will be added over the next few week.

Huw Morris Retires!

At the end of the Summer Term, 2008, Huw Morris retired from his post of Teacher Adviser for ICT for the City and County of Swansea.

Huw had worked with the service since 1987 when he joined the Baglan IT Centre and later moved with colleagues to form the Swansea ICT service. He has worked tirelessly to support schools and will now devote more time to his beloved Scarlets.

He will be sorely missed by his colleagues, teachers and, most importantly, children. He has played a huge part in the development of ICT not only locally, but also across the Principality.
